Watch out!

Hello, folks!  I'm back and I finally decided to keep this blog up and running again... watch out for a special Christmas present this week!

Thursday 9 September 2010

Sorry Folks

I posted my 2010 Third Quarter Mix the other day and unfortunately it received a complaint from DMCA to have it removed from this blog. As I wrote before, I would adhere to any requests from the owners of the work or authorities if asked to remove any  contents of this blog. Thus, I'm not posting it anymore. I'm sorry if I made this decision folks but rules are rules.

Something For The Weekend presents...Nothing On You Shuffle Mix

I'm back from my almost three weeks of hiatus. My schedule has been quite hectic and the weather has been gorgeous here in England these past two weeks. But sad to say , it seems that we're back to our gloomy and wet English weather. As what they'd normally say ,we only get two weeks of summer in a year BUT  I'm still hoping that small meteorological company in Wales is still correct in their prediction that we're  going to have a 'barbecue summer' this year.

I have managed to come up with a mini mix this weekend and I titled it as 'Nothing On You Shuffle Mix'. I basically used a dj tool of B.O.B's song 'Nothing On You' as the layout  beat of all songs included  until I reached the main song in the end.  B.O.B's song is my current fave and I thought that this mix complemented the song. Have a nice weekend everyone!

The Michael Jackson Tribute Mixes

It’s been a year since the world was shocked to hear the news of Michael Jackson’s untimely death. And whoever say that they were never in their lifetime got influenced by his music is talking bollocks.Michael Jackson is a legend and a genius. He will forever be enigmatic and his music legacy will continue to live through future generations of music lovers.

To remember MJ’s music, I am presenting to all of you two mixes I made after he passed away last year. The first mix was completed right after I watched his memorial service. I felt at that time that I completed mix in a rush and was not satisfied with the outcome, thus I decided to create a 2nd version which in my opinion sounded cleaner as the mix is more seamless. And as the months passed by, I began to prefer the first mix as I feel that it is more fun to listen to. Maybe its raw sound added to its appeal. Anyway, I’ll let you decide on that. I hope you all like these mixes.

RIP MJ.

Something For The Weekend presents... Father's Day Alternative Rock Mix

When I first conceptualized ‘Something For The Weekend presents…’ few weeks ago, I somehow thought that I might not be able to produce mini mixes every week as I work full time. I so far made a few drafts and concepts  but haven’t finalized them yet. Hopefully, in the coming days, I’d be able to present them to all of you.
This weekend’s offering is somehow my tribute to all the dads out there on this special day. I initially chose among new wave, classic rock, or modern alternative rock and have picked the last genre as I feel that it will appeal to young dads like yours truly (eherm).

Happy Father's Day to all !

RETRObution vol. 4

I've been busy last week thus I'm behind with my posts. Nevertheless, I managed to squeeze the 4th volume of my RETRObution series in my spare time.  And a bit of trivia as well, the mix from "Push It" up to "I Go Crazy" is the exact copy of a portion of the mixtape I bought in 1988...my way of reliving the past. I just hope my brother has still kept the tape in its storage box back home. The link is down below.

By the way, I've got something special prepared for the weekend, so keep your eyes and ears open.

RETRObution Series

I’m back and as promised, I am presenting my RETRObution series. These compilation mixes are products of my passion for classic dance music. I initially didn’t intend to make it into series. I only wanted to make a nice retro mix to play in my car while on the road but I had fun making the first volume that I just carried on making more volumes until I ended up producing nine volumes over a span of three years. The mixes are presented in the traditional beat matching and the cut and paste styles of mixing…no fancy effects/sampling were used . I just wanted some good old style mixes and I never thought of sharing these in the net for those who like this type of mixing. I hope you all like these mixes as much as I enjoyed making them back then. These are for promo only and are available to listen to for a limited time because uploading 9 mixes in 320kps quality  will eat a huge chunk of my virtual drive in my 4shared and divshare accounts. For the meantime, enjoy the first two volumes and I’ll upload the rest in the coming days.

RETRObution Time

When I started this music blog a few months back... I did write that I'll be posting mixes I compiled over the past years. And I have finally decided to start posting my RETRObution series these coming weeks. The mixes are composed of some of the best dance tracks of our lives. The songs I selected are guaranteed floor fillers. And the mixes were done in the traditional beat mixing technique...no fancy sampling or effects were used to bring back the era when dj's used two turntables to mix tracks. So watch this space again.

A quick note to all

I'm sorry folks if the links for my 2nd Quarter Mix and Girls Gone Bad On The Dance Floor are not working. They have been blocked by 4shared. I guess the mixes were too hot to handle that they have to be deleted...oh well.

Also, I've been slightly busy this week thus I am lagging behind finishing the full 2010 Second Quarter Mix...hopefully I'd finish it soon.

One consolation though is that we're enjoying a warm spring here in beautiful England.

Saturday 3 April 2010

Happy Easter!

Girls Gone Bad On The Dance Floor minimix

I'm sharing with you this minimix I originally posted in my old blog last year.  I’m pretty sure the ladies who are gonna read this will surely love this one. I titled the mini mix as ‘Girls Gone Bad On The Dance Floor’. The set features dance tracks of some of the best contemporary female solo artists or girl groups . I came up with this compilation after checking my medley/mini mix collection that I haven’t checked out for a while. I stumbled a mini mix (properly called medley) done by Mastermix ( a UK based remix service company) titled ‘The Hen Night Medley’ which is made up of mainly 70’s songs. For those unfamiliar to the term hen night, it’s basically the female counterpart of stag night, which us pinoys are more familiar to.The said medley only ran for 12 minutes . I thought that the concept is nice and well thought. And has inspired me to come up with a relatively similar style though not just intended for a particular occasion. I think the ladies can play this whilst preparing for a big night out, while exercising, or even when doing household chores. Ladies, just a small reminder though, because it’s a mini mix, you might complain that it’s bitin. The entire mix only clocks to 28 minutes and 43 seconds.   So ladies, if you wanna start getting bad… start clicking the link below… ;-)

Lady Gaga Hit Mix

Here's my Sunday treat for all of you...a simple hitmix of Lady Gaga which I created last October 2009.  I tried to squeeze her hits under 20 minutes. I thought of having this mix so that my wife and I will stop flicking the ipod for her songs (LOL). I might update this mix as a lot of her songs became hits since I made this. Anyways, just enjoy the music of her royal weirdness...

Here’s the track listing:

Wave In Motion –a retrospect mix

Retrospect       (noun) - contemplation of the past; a survey of past time, events, etc

(verb :used without object)- to look back in thought; refer back (often fol. by to)

(verb :used with object)- to look back upon; contemplate retrospectively

(Idiom)- in retrospect, in looking back on past events; upon reflection

It was the year 1988, when my tatay brought home an imported cassette tape which contained the best music of that year and all done in one massive mix. I can barely remember the title of that tape but I can still vividly recall the experience of listening to it for the first time. The entire mix was done so well that looking back now in retrospect, the anonymous person who set up the mix on both sides of the cassette recording was probably one hell of a dj! That type of mixing can only be heard from the early remix service companies at that time. But now, anyone who has the talent and good imagination and creativity can come up with the same quality of mixing, if not even better with the aid of some proper dj software and equipment. Since then I got hooked to the art of dj-ing. But because dj-ing was an expensive hobby for me at that time (and still is today) , I had to contend myself to watching other dj’s do their stuff. I remember attending parties not to dance but to actually watch and observe the unsung masters of the wheels of steel to learn some techniques and inspiration. My first taste of actually playing in front of a large crowd was in 1990. My father’s friend( rest his soul) had asked me to tag along with them when he found out that I had a good music collection. I was wondering why he wanted me to join them as my music collection at that time was composed of cassette tapes bought in Raon (oh yes, the good old Raon, the electronics centre of the Philippines). I later found out that their main equipments were composed of two cassette decks and a mixer. Bloody high tech! Ha ha ha! I also remember receiving a share of the fee that the organiser of the party paid us. And what did I do with the money if you ask? Of course I bought some more tapes in Raon again. Yehey!

I am not embarrassed at all to share this experience as this was my first taste of a dj's life. This is also how I learned to set up basic sound system and lighting. I also learned the value of taking care of equipments no matter how expensive or cheap they may be. I still practice the same value up to this day whether with my own stuff or with others’. I could go on and on with my stories but I guess that will do for now.

The mix that I’m featuring is the last new wave mix I made. I actually created it sometime in July 2009...to be used as background music while I'm driving. And if you’ll compare the mixing between my ‘New Wave Chronicles’ mixes to this one, you’ll see a big difference as I’ve used some sampling with this and it’s more seamless and neater.

I titled this mix Wave in Motion after New Order’s classic ‘ World in Motion’ which was used as England’s theme song for the 1990 World Cup. As I intentionally made this mix for driving pleasure thus I put ‘wave’ in replacement of ‘world’. So it’s new wave music while in motion .

Here is the track list, the songs featured are either extended or remixed versions. The link is found at the bottom of the page and I still uploaded it via my 4shared account. And as usual it’s in 320 kbps mp3 format.

Music For The Masses Megamix

extracted from wiki:

A megamix is a medley remix containing multiple songs in rapid succession. There may be only one verse or even just a brief chorus of each song used, sometimes in addition to samples of the same or other songs. There may also be some elements of bastard pop in some, though not as much as a mash up]. To unify the songs together smoothly, a single backing beat may be added as background throughout the megamix -although this is not a must-. This backing beat is kept basic so as to simplify mixing and to not compete with the music. These mixes are usually several minutes long at minimum, going up to a half-hour or even more sometimes.

This week’s feature is my first ever attempt to produce a full and proper megamix. I’ve always wanted to do one but due to the time needed to make one, I’ve decided to put it on hold before. And  if my estimation is correct, I finished the megamix in about six hours. I had to do it in separate stages and during my free time only as I discovered that it is a pain in the a**e to make one. IMHO this megamix turned out well but if there are some imperfections, just understand that it’s my first attempt and I’m still trying to master the art of megamixing.

I called this megamix as ‘Music For The Masses’ because all the songs that I selected are songs that the general public or the masses have actually listened to before. Majority of the songs featured are radio friendly. Hopefully, I can turn ‘Music For The Masses’ as a series of megamixes that will feature other genres of music not included in this first volume...if time will permit. But for the meantime,I do hope you all enjoy this megamix as much as I enjoyed doing it.

Smooth Dance Classics

It’s raining here in England today. We were supposed to attend a christening but unfortunately , due to an unforeseen event, it has been cancelled. Thus, I feel that we’ll have a chill out Sunday. I quickly decided to post this old mix I’ve done a few months back which in my opinion will suit if you are planning to have a quite day at home. The songs included can be enjoyed whilst reading your Sunday papers and a nice hot cuppa on the side. Don't forget to tap your feet though =)  .Enjoy.
